Abstract

The aim of this work is to study the production of the serial saga (or feuilleton) section in Chilean newspapers, from the second half of the 19th century until its end. During this period, intellectuals were known to deploy subjectivities that, even prior to the inclusion and dissemination of such textual space, were novel and ground breaking due to the thematic, stylistic, and authorial heterogeneity and to the series of textual strategies that were tested at this point. We propose a periodization for the production of this serial saga section, using R. Chartier (2005) as a working methodology. Moreover, we make use of W. Benjamin’s El Narrador (2010) to establish a critical analysis of the feuilleton discourses. Regarding the corpus of study, we selected representative serial sagas of different newspapers published between 1842 and 1899.
