This essay addresses the origins and evolution of the literary cueca, exploring both its poetic structure and its relationship to music. To do so, it first focuses on the analysis of the morphological descriptions made by Ismael Parraguez, who laid the foundations for formal studies of the cueca. Subsequently, the contributions of poets and composers such as Pablo Neruda and Nicanor Parra are explored, who established the cueca as an independent literary form. The essay aims to show the articulation between popular tradition and its adaptation to highbrow literature, connections that have been under explored in Chilean poetry studies.
